Narendra Damodardas Modi (Gujarati: નરેંદ્ર દામોદરદાસ મોદી, born 17 September 1950), more commonly referred to simply as Narendra Modi, is an Indian politican who is currently serving as the 14th Prime Minister of India since May 2014. Additionally, he was also the Chief Minister of the western state of Gujarat between 2001 and 2014. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is the leader of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and is also presently the single largest party in India for both the national legislatures of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Before joining the BJP, he also worked for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization which a lot of the senior and important leaders of the BJP have ties with.

He remains a figure of controversy due to his association with Hindu nationalist organizations and especially for allegedley iniating and condoning the 2002 Gujarat communal riots, in which Muslims were targetted during his tenure as the state's Chief Minister. However, the Indian Supreme Court has not find any evidence of his wrongdoing and has always given him a cleanchit. [1]
