Hindi is one of the major languages of India. It is spoken in many Indian states, and is widely understood in most of the non-Hindi speaking states.
Script[]
The Hindi script is called Devanagari. It is almost completely phonetic. In most cases, each sound is represented by one symbol, and each symbol usually represents just one sound.
The vowels have two forms: independent and dependent. Here are the independent form:
अआइईउऊऋएऐओऔ
The script is also arranged in a logical order. Each line of consonants is produced in a particular part of the mouth. The first line is produced in the back of the throat:
क ख ग घ ङ
The next line is produced with the tongue touching the top of the mouth:
च छ ड ढ ञ
The next line is produced with the tongue touching the ridge of the mouth
ट ठ ड ढ ण
The next line is produced with the tongue touching the back of the teeth:
त थ द ध न
Finally the rest are produced with the lips
प फ ब भ ल व म श ष स ह
